Global Talent Visa Introduction

What is the Global Talent visa?

The Global Talent visa is a UK immigration category for young and talented persons seeking to work in the UK in certain fields, such as, science, humanities, engineering, the arts, and technology.

Applicants should generally seek endorsement from one endorsing body, which is formally recognised by the UK Home Office, to secure entrance via this route. Those who have won a prize from the Home Office’s list of qualifying prizes are also able to apply using this method without an endorsement.

In February 2020, the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) Visa was replaced by the Global Talent Visa. The programme is accessible to current and future leaders.

Global Talent visas are usually given for a period of up to five years, after which they can be extended for another one to five years. Alternatively, after three years for a leader and five years for a prospective leader, holders of this visa can apply for settlement (i.e. Indefinite Leave To Remain – ILR).

How is the Global Talent visa beneficial?

The visa has a number of benefits, including the ability to work in the UK for the applicant and flexible alternatives for firms looking to acquire emerging or promising talent from across the world in their industry.

  • Flexibility to the employer
  • Unrestricted work
  • Extension of stay for applicants
