Recruiting Health and Care Staff being made easier

More roles have been added to the Shortage Occupation List. With the new points-based immigration system, those applying through the skilled worker visa route need 70 points in order to be eligible for the visa.

A job on the Shortage Occupation List is worth 20 points. The added 20 points to the compulsory requirements of having a good level of English, an offer from a licensed sponsor and the necessary skill level will ensure that those in the roles added to the list reach the 70 points needed. Thus, migrant workers in health and care roles now have a better chance of coming to and working in the UK. These changes make sure that the businesses in the UK have better access to the best talent.

The following roles have been added to the Shortage Occupation List:

  • Pharmacists
  • Laboratory technicians
  • Senior care workers
  • Nursing assistants
  • Health services and public health managers/directors
  • Residential care managers
  • Day care managers
  • Domiciliary care managers
  • Health professionals not mentioned anywhere else such as audiologists and dental hygiene therapists
  • Modern foreign language teachers
