Investment in the UK

In February, the Home Office announced the closure of the Tier 1 Investor visa after security
concerns and the realisation that many had acquired wealth illegally through this visa. There had
been some conversation about the Tier 1 Investor visa benefitting Russian Oligarchs which was a
concern due to the war in Ukraine.

The Tier 1 Investor visa was a route available for high-net-worth foreign individuals who desired to
enter the UK. Applicants under this route were required to substantially invest in the UK economy.
Under the Tier 1 Investor visa, high-net-worth individuals were able to settle in the UK after a set
period of time.

The Home Secretary has announced that the Tier 1 Investor visa will not simply be scrapped and
instead there will be some reform. There proposed aim of the new scheme is to ensure that
investors are not approved for a visa simply through owning a high level of assets. The scheme is
aiming to move away from passive investing and focus on individuals who will bring tangible benefits
to the UK economy. Contact NA Law Solicitors for further information.
